PadMates Terms of Service

Welcome to PadMates. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and PadMates LLC, a Georgia limited liability company ("PadMates," "we," "us," or "our"), and govern your use of the PadMates mobile application and related services (the "App" or "Service").
Please read these Terms carefully. By creating an account or using PadMates, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who can use PadMates
You must be at least 13 years old to use PadMates. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. By using PadMates, you represent that you meet these requirements and that the information you provide is accurate.
PadMates is a tool for managing shared living — splitting expenses, tracking chores, agreeing on house rules, and keeping a reputation score across your time in a household. It is not a roommate-matching service, a financial institution, a payment processor, a lender, or a landlord-tenant service.
2. Your account
We sign you in using one-time codes sent to your email; you are responsible for keeping access to your email account secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us at support@padmates.io if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorization. You may delete your account at any time from within the App, as described in our Privacy Policy.
3. Households and shared content
PadMates is a shared tool. When you join or create a household, information you enter — including your display name, profile photo, expenses, splits, chore activity, house rules, votes, PadMates Score, and payment handles — is visible to other members of that household. You are responsible for the content you enter and for deciding what to share with your household.
Because balances, splits, and shared records depend on multiple members, some content you contribute may remain part of a household's records after you leave or delete your account, as described in our Privacy Policy.
4. Expenses, splits and settle-up
PadMates helps you record and organize shared expenses and calculate who owes what. PadMates does not process, transfer, or hold money. When you settle up, PadMates opens a third-party payment app you choose (such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle), and you complete the payment directly in that app under its own terms.
The balances, splits, and calculations PadMates provides are for your convenience and organization only. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the information you enter and for any actual payments, debts, or financial arrangements between you and your housemates. PadMates is not a party to those arrangements and is not responsible for resolving disputes about money owed between members.
5. Receipt scanning
If you use the optional receipt-scanning feature, PadMates sends the receipt photo you capture to a third-party AI provider that reads the image and returns details such as merchant, total, and date, as described in our Privacy Policy. Scanned details are provided for your convenience and may not be accurate — you are responsible for reviewing and confirming them before saving an expense.
6. PadMates score
PadMates calculates a reputation score based on your in-app activity, such as chore completion, settle-up reliability, and rule participation. The PadMates Score is an in-app convenience feature only. It is not a credit score, a financial rating, or a consumer report, and it may not be used for any purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws.
7. Subscriptions and payments to PadMates (PRO)
PadMates may offer paid subscription features ("PRO"). If you purchase a subscription, it is billed through the Apple App Store under Apple's terms, and Apple manages billing, renewals, and refunds. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled through your App Store account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Prices and features may change; we will provide notice of material changes as required. Except where required by law or Apple's policies, payments are non-refundable.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
Use PadMates for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
Enter content that is false, misleading, infringing, harassing, threatening, or that violates the rights or privacy of others;
Attempt to access another user's account or a household you have not been invited to;
Interfere with, disrupt, probe, or reverse-engineer the Service, or attempt to circumvent its security or access controls;
Use the Service to send spam, or to collect other users' information for unauthorized purposes;
Use automated means to access the Service except as we expressly permit.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that create risk or possible legal exposure for us or our users.
9. Your content and our license
You retain ownership of the content you enter into PadMates. You grant PadMates a limited, non-exclusive license to host, store, process, and display your content solely as needed to operate and provide the Service (for example, showing your expenses to your household or processing a receipt image for scanning). This license ends when your content is deleted, except for residual copies in routine backups and content that remains part of a household's shared records as described above.
10. Third-party services
PadMates links out to third-party services, including payment apps and the AI provider used for receipt scanning. We are not responsible for third-party services, and your use of them is subject to their own terms and privacy policies.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any calculations, balances, or scanned details will be accurate. You use the Service at your own risk.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, PadMates and its members, officers, and employees will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, money, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the Service — including any disputes about money, debts, or arrangements between you and your housemates.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless PadMates and its members, officers, and employees from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or the rights of others.
14. Termination
You may stop using PadMates and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including content licenses for shared records, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification — will survive.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App or by email. Your continued use of PadMates after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
